About
WRITERS' Journal
Published 6 Times a Year
WRITERS’ Journal (originally named "The Inkling") was founded in 1980 as a four-page newsletter for writers. Through a period of several owners, it has been transformed into a full-fledged, professional, writer's journal. We are a bimonthly publication circulated to aspiring writers whose love of writing has prompted them to take the next step: attempting to become published.
We try to give such writers the tools and information necessary to get their work in shape for publication. Articles are geared to those at all levels of experience, from beginning writers to those who are already professionals. We cover techniques for improving writing style—punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, vocabulary, etc.—as well as helpful advice on how to develop various types of writing in both fiction and nonfiction categories.
We offer writers guidance in selling and publishing their work and advice on desktop publishing, e-publishing, and publishing-on-demand. WRITERS’ Journal publishes authoritative articles on style, technique, editing methods, copy writing, research, writing news releases, news stories and features, business of writing, and travel writing. Our columnists deal with various creative forms, such as photography, poetry, book doctoring, computer usage, and screenwriting.
The scope of WRITERS’ Journal information makes the magazine a valuable tool for all types of writers, including professional communicators, independent- and self-publishers, part- and full-time freelancers, screenwriters, editors, teachers, and poets.
Our readers also get the chance to put into practice what they learn by entering our short story, poetry, and photography contests. We publish the winners of these contests.
WRITERS’ Journal is circulated to individual paid subscribers (approximately 1,800), on newsstands with approximately 22,000 copies each issue (our sell-thru is above average by industry standards), to public and university libraries nationwide, professional organizations’ libraries, and to writers’ groups coast to coast. We have high pass-along interest because of our something-for-everyone format: good how-to information for writers and contest winning stories for the avid reader.
Besides being in hundreds of independent bookstores throughout North America, WRITERS’ Journal is also available in many chains such as: B. Dalton, Borders, Waldenbooks, Barnes & Noble, Little Professor, Towers, Shinders, and other stores distributed to by Ingram and IPD.
WRITERS’ Journal reaches the individual freelance writer, published authors, teachers/instructors of English and creative writing, public relations specialists, editors, publishers, public speakers, screenwriters, and business writers.
