WRITERS' Journal

Manuscripts will not be returned.

Copyrights to manuscripts remain with authors. WRITERS' Journal requires only one-time publishing rights to winning entries.

Rules:

Each contest will have a "starter phrase"—the story must start with this "starter phrase." This is a great opportunity for those of you who want to write, but don't know what to write about.

Maximum 1500 words, and stories must start with the starter phrase, may be dialogue—author's choice.

No staples please.

Manuscripts must be typed, double-space on 8 1/2" x 11" paper.

For those without Web access, a winner's list can be obtained by including a #10 SASE.

Only one copy of each entry is required.

Writer's name must not appear on the manuscript.

A separate cover sheet must accompany each entry with the following information:

1. Name of contest

2. Title of submission

3. Writer's name, address,
telephone number, and
e-mail address (if available).

A title page with the manuscript title only.

On the manuscript itself, each page should be headed with a title keyword and page number.

Submissions must be postmarked by deadline date as indicated.

Only previously unpublished stories accepted.

These guidelines supersede guidelines found elsewhere whether in print or online.
